Description
In August 2019, REC successfully secured a DSD’s first of its kind pilot scheme for implementing Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) at Wan Chai East Preliminary Treatment Works. Remotely unmanned cleaning and inspection operation at the plant’s wet well shall be performed by ROV with the assistance of Ultra Short Baseline Sensor (USBL) and Acoustic Camera (Sonar). To efficiently clean up sediments accumulated at the bottom of wet well, the ROV is equipped with rotating auger drill to disintegrate stubborn solid, which parted waste then is lifted and transported by its powerful dredging pump. Despite of a low visibility in sewage, the carried USBL and Sonar is capable of obtaining ROV's position data and real-time image. This information serves a reliable tool for operator to maneuver the ROV. The pilot scheme is divided into five stages: Preliminary inspection of the designated site for ROV operation, Procurement of ROV and sensors, Off-site Trial, ROV enhancement & On-site trial.
